Emergency Plumbing 101
Leaking faucets, bursting pipes are just a few of homeowner’s worst nightmares. With stock knowledge, these issues may seem trivial.
It is very crucial to know the things you need to do if there is an emergency plumbing that requires immediate attention. There are band-aid remedies while waiting for the plumber to fix it properly. The sad part is most homeowners are clueless when it comes to stop gap measures. So, here’s a list of things you MUST do whenever you encounter emergency plumbing problems.
Know where to locate your main cut-off valve. Every house has this to stop the flow of water in certain situations. It is important to know the precise location of the valve. The valve will stop the flow of water in the pipes if turned off. To turn it off the valve must be turned clockwise. This can be located either near the meter tank or the pressure tank depending on what type of water tank you employ. It is better to know its exact location beforehand because looking for them in times of emergency is like looking for a needle in a haystack.
Cut off the water flow. By having an idea where the main-cut off valve is, one can stop the flow of water during leaks and bursting pipes. If emergency plumbing occurs, chances are the house will be filled with water by the time the plumber arrives. The first thing to do is close the water supply. It will also allow you time not to panic and get so stressed about leaking sinks or pipes.
One can also look for valves of specific areas.
Other than the main shut off, each plumbing fixture has an individual shut off in a specific area. This will allow you to corner the problem in one area. Kitchen and bathroom sinks have also shut off valves.
